Rob McSweeney is a London-based sculptor. A few words from the artist:
‘My work aims to create a mixture of mild repulsion, confusion and a degree of endearment.
Anthropomorphism plays a large part in the forms and compositions the pieces finally take. Be it through sexual dimorphism or behavioural traits, a fascination with how historic and contemporary cultures use the animal form to both represent and mask our own idiosyncrasies continues to be a driving inspiration.
The pieces then try to distance themselves from appearing too scary or melodramatic by employing a certain degree of sophomoric or tongue-in-cheek humour, ultimately resulting in relatively absurdist work with little objective meaning.’
