A Graduate of Central Saint Martin’s BA Fine Art 2010, Catriona Robertson is currently working across a variety of medium including sculpture, installation, painting and printmaking in her studio based in Stockwell, London. Catriona also works as a Technician in 3D workshops at Central Saint Martin’s, teaching woodwork, casting and metalwork skills to BA and MA courses.
For ‘Maps‘ Catriona will be exhibiting three paintings from her CNC series of works. This body of work is made through a series of processes, bringing together digital techniques, painting and sculpture. Taking the inadvertent engravings imprinted on the base board of a CNC router machine as the basis for her paintings, Catriona builds up layers of paint in reference to the layering of the cuts made by the machine. This process becomes a mapping of a previous occurrence, akin to an archeological survey. The final image appears industrial; an ordered yet disordered visual and physical representation of data.
