Scene was founded through the mutual wish to experiment with ways to broaden the design discussion.

Ian Law

Director and founding member

Ian has worked at notable London architecture practices including PLP Architecture and Ian Simpson Architects since graduating from the Bartlett, UCL London, in 2007.

He is a keen painter and has organised several small exhibitions of his work both in London and Berlin. He is also currently working on a fictional graphic novel, which he hopes will get interest from publishers.

In 2010/2011 he held an artist studio at Stour Space in Hackney Wick, a socially minded non-profit organisation, and got to know a large number of artists and makers.

During this time Ian experienced first-hand how vital it is to the artist community to have access to sustainable and affordable workspaces. He also saw the positive effects on the local community of having a creative and social hub on its doorstep.

Anna Hastings

Director and founding member

Anna is an artist and designer, who after qualifying as an architect has gone on to focus on set design and large scale sculptural installation.

Anna graduated from the Bartlett, UCL London, in 2008, and has previously worked with StoreyStudio where she has worked on set and window design, and erect architecture, where she worked on community centres, art installations and public space projects.

Prior to working with erect architecture, Anna worked with raumlabor berlin in Germany where she was able to work on the design and build of various exhibitions and public installations, including at the Venice Biennale and at the Roskilde music festival.

What Anna enjoys most about her work is the creative input and the interaction with the public that many of the projects require. It is this engagement with people and their built environments, and the importance of design to the everyday, that has motivated Anna to set up Scene.
