People in Process: Cyanotype Workshop

As part of Almudena Romero‘s residency with Scene, and as a further exploration of the cyanotype process, she invited members of the public to create an abstract piece of collaborative work.

The workshop was designed to explore the cyanotype process from a contemporary approach, encouraging participants to bring and use a variety of different objects. Participants were invited to reflect on the texture of the piece and its sculptural qualities as well as the link between their personal individual objects and the final collaborative piece.

The final piece will be exhibited as part of the ‘Process‘ exhibition at the Dreamspace Gallery.

People in Process: The Exchange

The first session of The Exchange at ‘Process’ was a great success, with conversations spanning religion, the meaning of life, social media and generational attitudes.

The Exchange is asking you to bring your opinions, thoughts and ideas to the table and take part in a pair of discussions to deliberate the way society measures and rewards the lives we lead

If you missed it there will be a second chance to join in the discussion as part of ‘Process in Work‘, as tickets will be launched shortly!

People in Process: The Adhocist Chair

As part of Adam Blencowe‘s time with Scene, he expanded on his original project ‘The Adhocist Chair‘ with a workshop open to the public.

The perimeters were:

  • To work to a given brief (written by visitors to the gallery)
  • To use the materials on hand (found and scrap material)
  • To answer the brief within 4 hours (!)

Twelve participants stepped up to the challenge, and with briefs as varied as ‘a travelling chair’ and ‘a chair to keep me awake on my night shift’, in record speed a whole assembly of new chairs were created! The chairs are being exhibited as part of the ongoing exhibition alongside Adam’s original work, and will be part of the May ‘Process‘ show at Dreamspace.

People in Process: erect architecture

erect architecture is an award-winning architectural practice led by Barbara Kaucky and Susanne Tutsch. They have developed an expertise in the fields of user-centred architecture for leisure, culture, education, work and play.

As a practice erect architecture treasure the cross-fertilisation and innovation that comes from creative collaborations and teamwork. They seek new and creative ways of working with other disciplines as well as users and stakeholders.
erect architecture’s projects are firmly routed within their communities, and their community engagement takes many different formats, which is developed in response to project specifics. The work with users often serves to establish a brief and to teach skills. It aims to generate involvement and always attempts to increase the sense of ownership amongst different user groups.

As part of ‘People in Process‘ erect architecture will be exhibiting a project which they designed alongside the community interest groups in Brixton, Dexter Road Adventure Playground, and showing how the engagement process influenced the design outcome.

Barbara Kaucky will also be talking more about the project and about erect architecture’s working processes at ‘People in Process – An Evening with the Artists‘, tickets are available here.

People in Process: Christabel Balfour

Christabel Balfour is an artist and weaver, living and working in South East London. She studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art where she produced woven sculptures and immersive installations.

Since graduating she has focused on tapestry weaving, as well as producing handmade papercuts. Her work seeks to combine the geometry of the city with the open spaces of the natural landscape, emphasising simplicity and tranquillity over complexity and chaos. She is interested in the soothing qualities of repetitive patterns, and the infinite variations of the handmade.

For ‘People in Process‘, Christabel is exhibiting the process behind her woven work, and allowing visitors to partake in a collaborative piece which will be created over the duration of the exhibition,

Christabel will also be giving a talk about her work at ‘People in Process – An Evening with the Artists‘, an intimate evening at the gallery for informal discussion over a glass of wine – book your space here.
